The girls of the W Series are finally back on track after a year of forced stop. At Spielberg Alice Powell triumphed ahead of Sarah Moore and Fabienne Wohlwend.
The first race of the second season, the first race on the same weekend as Formula 1. An all-round success for the now real W Series that offered a great show since the free practice and in the official qualifying session.
The category has found again its public and its supporters that, in an important scenario like the Styria Gp of Formula 1, has maximized even more the work of the organizers and of all the people involved in the category.
The race proved to be gripping right from the start with twists and turns and great duels. It was Alice Powell who won the first race of 2021 after starting in pole position and pulling away from her rivals. Second place for one of the new faces of the season, Sarah Moore, who was consistently on her colleague's times and solid in her race course. Third position for a good Fabienne Wohlwend, able to stay out of trouble and recover positions up to the deserved final podium. Fourth position for Belen Garcia, great protagonist of the weekend and in full fight with her teammate Moore until a mistake that forced her to end up in the gravel and then recover to the sound of overtaking and fast laps to realize excellent points in the overall standings. Fifth was Japanese Miki Koyama. The big surprise was represented by the first reigning champion, Jamie Chadwick, who seemed to be the only one who could challenge the first three positions but who, halfway through the race, found herself at the back of the group after being collided with at turn 1. Two unfortunate retirements for Marta Garcia and Vicky Piria.
