Press Release by:

Mr Simone Favaro, who took part in the Ortona (ITA) event counting towards the CIK-FIA “U18” World Karting Championship held on 9 July 2011, tested positive for THC (a metabolite of cannabis), a specified substance belonging to the group S8, cannabinoids, of the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List.

Mr Simone Favaro was provisionally suspended as from 26 July 2011. The FIA Anti-Doping Disciplinary Committee (ADC) held a hearing in this case in Paris on 24 August 2011.

Decision of the ADC
The ADC concluded that an Anti-Doping Rule Violation according to Article 2.1 of the FIA Anti-Doping Regulations – "Presence of a Prohibited Substance or its Metabolites or Markers in a Driver's Sample" – was established. As a consequence, the ADC decided on 7 September 2011 to impose the following sanctions on Mr Simone Favaro:
1) the sanction of ineligibility for a period of 3 months, starting on 9 July 2011 and expiring on 9 October 2011;
2) Mr Simone Favaro is disqualified from the individual results achieved in the Ortona (ITA) event counting towards the CIK-FIA “U18” World Karting Championship held on 9-10 July 2011, as well as from any competitive results achieved as from 9 July 2011, with all resulting consequences including forfeiture of any trophies, points and prizes.

Mr Simone Favaro has 21 days in which to appeal this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Consequently, the Stewards of the Ortona Event had to validate new classifications (see: http://www.cikfia.com/championships/cik-calendar/ortona/u18/results.html).
The provisional classification of the CIK-FIA “U18” World Championship is thus also modified.
