The 2025 resolutions: harmonizing the sport we all love

Karting is much more than it seems to be from the outside. Today’s environment, more conducive than ever to attracting newcomers, grapples with a perception that does not always reflect the true nature of this sport. The challenges of the coming year present an objective that is well within reach.
The 2025 resolutions: harmonizing the sport we all love
What kind of 2024 was it for karting? Our sport is striving to regulate itself—and it’s succeeding. Over the past few years, karting has solidly established its place in the FIA universe. Its role as the primary pathway to Formula 1 is its most defining feature. And you know what? Karting has embraced this role so well that its "polished" image is almost overshadowing its essence as a raw and popular sport. But we’re confident we’ll finally achieve that precious balance between sport and business. Karting has such a vast potential audience that it would be reductive to see it solely as a stepping stone to adult motorsport. If the general media has formed the (mistaken) idea that karting is just an incubator for the Max Verstappens of tomorrow, then it’s up to us, the "specialist media" to keep the course steady—in the interest of the sport and, naturally, the many companies thriving within this galaxy.

A growing ‘popular’ karting scene
The offerings in "popular" karting have expanded significantly (just look at the huge commercial success of Briggs & Stratton and Tillotson T4, or the vast world of arrive-and-drive championships with high performances rental karts). So, while it might sometimes feel grating—ask anyone who read the Washington Post article on karting in Italy—to see children treated like major sports stars and to consider the financial demands of a Minikart season, we must also acknowledge that a sport once niche and exclusive is now within reach for many. Let’s be honest: every sport, in some form, nurtures excesses, and karting is no exception. We’ve seen them and may continue to see them. But at the same time, every sport is a system made up of countless elements (and people), and it’s simply impossible for all of them to be wrong. Let’s give 2024 karting, and its harmonious growth, the credit it deserves.

Competitive highlights of 2024
From a competitive standpoint, 2024 brought attention to working-class outsiders like Palomba in the premier category and reaffirmed some technical certainties across all racing classes: without good tires, it’s tough to engage in quality karting. The year also showed us how a region with a harsh climate can produce drivers objectively more comfortable in challenging situations that often karting presents. This was evident in the strong presence of Northern European drivers (particularly the British) among the top positions in almost every high-level international competition—not just Rotax. Check out the podiums of all the major races.

Looking ahead to 2025
The word we’ve chosen for the future is "harmony." Confident and aware that 2025 offers even greater potential for improvement, we look forward. The challenges and uncertainties of '25 are already here—let’s face them head-on!
