RMC Euro Trophy: Finals grids decided from exciting heats

Columns: Races
The racing continued Saturday at the first edition of the Rotax Max Challenge Euro Trophy with another 20 elimination heats at Karting Genk ‘Home of Champions’, confirming the Pre-Finals start grids for Sunday. The pressure of the competition could be felt as the qualifiers were contested under brilliant sunny skies as the MOJO grip built up at the challenging Limburg circuit.

Ranking after Heats:
Zdenek Babicek - Mini MAX      (TEPZ Racing
Jacob Ashcroft - Junior MAX      (Dan Holland Racing),
Macauley Bishop - Senior MAX     (Dan Holland Racing)
Enzo Bol - DD2             (SP Motorsport)
Nicolas Picot – DD2 Masters    (Picot)

Belgian Cup by Mini MAX – Zdenek Babicek was unbeatable to win all four of his races, while RMCET Winter Cup champion Albert Friend took the double to rank second overall. Original pole-sitter from Friday AJ Burggraaff secured one heat to sit third in the points. The champion of the firs Belgian Cup will be awarded their personal invitation ticket to the RMC Grand Finals in Sarno, Italy in October.

Rotax Junior MAX – Four different drivers took the chequered flag on Saturday: Jacob Ashcroft, Toms Strele, Noah Janssen and Ties van Wijk. However, Ashcroft finished with the least points to top the rankings from teammate Strele. First Euro Trophy Mini MAX champion Boaz Maximov with three P2 results ended up on equal points with Janssen to rank third in the class of almost 50 Juniors.

Rotax Senior MAX – There were also several winners in the Senior races where almost 90 competitors are in the battle for the round victory and points. Taking another three wins to make it four in total, Macauley Bishop topped the leaderboard ahead of race winners Kai Hunter and Jayden Thien. Sean Butcher won the remaining Heat to rank fifth on equal standings with Lewis Gilbert P4. The early leaders are bound to be the protagonists of the Pre-Finals (A&B), but the shuffle in the points will show the real contenders for the closing Final in the afternoon.

DD2 – Last season’s vice champion, Enzo Bol, sealed the top spot in the rankings after winning the last race Saturday. Patriks Locmelis ranked next after winning the initial heat in the morning from Paul Fourquemin P3. David Aulejtner and Rotax world #1 Ragnar Veerus were also race winners.

Rotax DD2 Masters Defending his title, Nicolas Picot won the two Heats to maintain his dominant lead of the opening round at Genk. Race 1 winner Haralds Garkaklis ranked second, while Igor Mukhin, who finished on the podium in the Rotax E20 E-Kart at the RMCGF 2023 in Bahrain, claimed third overall with the same points as the experienced local Christophe Adams.

All of Sunday’s action is being broadcast live online with provisional podiums directly following each of the five Finals in the afternoon. All the Finals racing videos will be available to wacth on YouTube.
