The Verstappens in KZ

- News and Previews

Fresh (and exclusive) news from the paddock. Former F1 driver Jos Verstappen and his son Max will both join the gearbox category in few national races next season, just for fun. And considering Max has already tried KZ five times showing great speed, he might also join the gearbox grid in few CIK events in 2012.

Great news Jos. It will be great to have you back on a kart.
J. “Thanks. I’ve always been a great fan of the gearbox class. Of course I want Max to concentrate on KF1, because it’s important for Crg factory and also for himself. But I would like him to race in the Benelux with the KZ, and depending on which championship we’re going to do, I will join as well. It’s an opportunity to race against him, so it will be exciting.”

You have to start training though...
J. “I know. I have all winter, but I’m not completely out of shape! Three years ago I did some shifter kart races, and it wasn’t too bad. For sure, when I will start practising it will be ok, but I’m not sure how ok, because Max has already tried KZ five or six times and he showed great feeling with it. By the looks of it, he will be very fast on KZ too. It will be very nice for both of us, and it will be very important for his future in formula, to start getting the basics with the clutch, the break balance and things like that.”

You will race against your dad in shifter then? You have to be gentle with him...
M. “Yeah, next year we’ll have some fun with dad. I can't wait for it, and I promise I will not win by much!”

J. “But I will make the best engine for me. I will do a better carburation for me, and I’ll leave him without fuel... I know how to slow him down, I know the tricks!”

Jos sure does! And we know they'll both have a great time
