The CIK World Championship hosted by Genk Circuit was, according to all involved, by far the best CIK event ever organized. 2,400 visitors on Saturday, twice as many on Sunday, over 300 VIP present, 430 volunteers, over 70 representatives of national and international media, TV and Radio, thousands of posters and leaflets distributed over the weeks preceding the event, are just a hint of the considerable effort circuit owners Paul and Koen Lemmens and event organizer Boy Pijls made for such unprecedented success.

Arriving at Genk Karting circuit on the three days World Championship event was quite a sight: the right lane of each side of the highway was closed to allow parking space for the thousands of visitors that joined in the most anticipated event of the year, and the police controlling the traffic. Never seen before at a karting event!
“We are very proud of the success of the event we organized – said event organizer Boy Pijls. The vice President of the CIK Kees van de Grint, as well as many racing team members and drivers congratulated us for a truly outstanding weekend, and I want to say thank you to everyone involved in the organization. We were also helped by good weather – for Belgian standards – and by the victory of a Belgian driver (Jonathan Thonon). Also we had many VIP present, like F1 driver Jerome D’Ambrosio, which certainly helped. Sunday evening TV news reported on the event, and we hope this will help the sport and our circuit grow in terms of popularity among those who don’t know about us and the sport in Belgium. Also, in terms of security, the event was very smooth, as we only had one minor accident with a broken shoulder, and this speaks very well of the quality of our facility.”
