While I was testing in Val Vibrata, during the lunch break my chief told me that the following day Alex Zanardi was going to be in Jesolo. ‘Can you go?’ He didn’t need to ask twice. Now, thanks to Dino Chiesa, I’m here at the “Pista Azzurra” in Jesolo (VE) and I’m going to interview a really special driver: the outstanding former Formula 1 pilot Alex Zanardi.

Now, thanks to Dino Chiesa, I’m here at the “Pista Azzurra” in Jesolo (VE) and I’m going to interview a really special driver: the outstanding former Formula 1 pilot Alex Zanardi.
Mr. Alex is currently busy racing (and winning) in the WTCC championship. Although he’s always very busy, finally, after several years, he could spend a whole day karting. And Vroom has been invited to follow this experience.
“I wanted to do this for a long time” Alex told me smiling, “but till today I could drive a kart only once, a rented one”. Alex is absolutely tireless, and in today’s tests he got off the kart only a few times, so Dino Chiesa, who has organized and managed the event, had to work hard.
Even if Alex hasn’t race karts since 1998, it took him a very short time to get used to it again, becoming faster and faster, session after session. I could hardly stay behind him when we went on track together. Besides his great talent, Alex showed an exceptional passion for sports. He is always available with all the people who overwhelm him with questions.
On the day, the track was open to the public, and everybody was attracted by the special guest. Also, Zanardi team official drivers such as Luigi Giacomello (KF1), Nick De Vries (KF3) and Danil Kvyat (KF3) were there. Also, latest addition to Dino Chiesa’s team Matteo Viganò (KF2) joined us, as well as several other personalities of motor sport, such as Riccardo Patrese and Roberto Ravaglia.
I really have to say that Alex has an exceptional enthusiasm and capacity to lighten up everyone and everything around him.
The long chat we’ve had after an afternoon spent with him was truly special. We talked, like if we were old friends, about motorsport, karting, and his life seen at 360°.
