SUZUKA WC rescheduled on 13/11

- News and Previews

The FIA and CIK feel very sorry for what is happening in Japan, but given the disaster and having assessed the situation with the Japanese ASN (JAF) and the Organiser (Suzuka Motor Sport Club), and after consultation of the official and private Teams entered in the CIK-FIA World Karting Championship, the Members of the CIK Commission have decided to postpone the first round of the Championship initially scheduled for 22 May 2011 to 13 November 2011.

The damages of the great earthquakes and the risks of contamination further to the incidents which the
Fukushima nuclear plant had to face and is still facing lead the CIK-FIA, in agreement with the local ASN
and Organiser, to apply the principle of precaution.

The FIA and CIK, as well as all the competitors consulted, are determined to confirm the calendar entry
of the Japanese round of the 2011 World Championship and Asia-Pacific KF2 Championship, the level
of organisation of which has always been remarkable, and hope to be able to receive in the meantime
during the next few weeks and months some information which can reassure the participants before
they travel to this prestigious meeting.
The date of 13 November has been submitted to the CIK-FIA by Japan’s ASN in consultation with the
Organiser; it has the advantage of not clashing with any other events already entered on the international sporting calendar.

The opening of the CIK-FIA World Championship will therefore take place on 12 June and its venue will
be the ProKart Raceland circuit of Wackersdorf, in Germany. The Championship will continue as scheduled
at Zuera, in Spain (24 July), and then at Genk, in Belgium (4 September), and at Sarno, in Italy
(18 September). Instead of opening the competition, Suzuka will consequently be the framework of its
conclusion and could thus have the honour of revealing the name of the first winner of the «new formula
» World Championship.
