The series is open for two categories, one for the senior (15 and above) and one for the Masters (32 and above). Both categories will race together but with separate prizes and championship points.
The inaugural Sonik Sport Asia Series, despite its short time in preparation for the event, is already receiving great support from the main teams in the region with each sending their top drivers to compete. The battle of the teams and kart manufacturers will continue fiercely in the series, but this time with more power and excitement. Chassis brands such as CRG, Gillard PDB, GP Racing, Maddox Karts, Intrepid and Birel will fight for the honours.

Series rights holder, Iru1 Motorsports Sdn Bhd who is also the exclusive distributor of the Maxter Sonik engine offers a stepping stone to young drivers in the region to promote their skills and capabilities with racing equalities as its utmost priority. To ensure this, Maxter; being the organizer of the series will provide its own ‘no nonsense officials and additional technical back-ups for racing teams and drivers to ensure racers race equally with zero tolerance towards any modification. Two Maxter personnel from the factory in Italy have been flown to Malaysia to carry these duties out.

Costing at a far affordable cost than the KF Series, participants will enjoy a championship consisting of two free practices, 1 qualifying and three exciting race per weekend. The configuration of the series meanwhile is structured with a format similar to top single-seater championships exposing teams to real world racing regulations. Even the points scoring for the championship will be the same as in the Formula 1 World Championship. In turn, the success of a team will be purely depending on team effort and the driver’s capabilities as the main tool that will guide them to the chequered flag.

“Currently KF engine dominates the general perception as the best engine in the world but at a very high operating cost. Iru1 Motorsports intends to provide a far more affordable engine that has similar capabilities and qualities in terms of performance through the Maxter Sonik engine. We are ambitious but with the performance of the engine, we are realistic enough to offer the go karting world to view power at its best through our eyes while keeping the cost at minimal,” CEO of Iru1 Motorsports Sdn Bhd, Nik Iruwan Dato' Nik Izani explains.

The series travels to 5 different international-class and CIK approved circuits in Malaysia, namely Speedway Plus Circuit, USJ, Morac International Circuit Langkawi, Shah Alam Stadium Circuit and Sepang International Circuit. This is to minimize transportation cost, which means all teams can keep their equipments in Malaysia and carry them to all the circuits in Malaysia. Thus, this would minimize the cost of transportation for the teams and individuals in general.

Sonik Sport Asia Series Official Media Partner, international no.1 karting magazine, Vroom Magazine will be covering all 5 events including one event of Sonik Sport Invitational Cup scheduled in October 2011.
