At Cremona World Cup, the FIA Anti-Launch System makes its racing debut

The Academy Trophy was chosen by the FIA for the first official race trial of the anti-launch system for karts, following about a year of testing under various conditions. During the World Cup OK-N weekend, these special bumpers will be fitted to the FIA Academy Trophy karts, allowing their behavior to be observed for the first time in a real race. (fm)
At Cremona World Cup, the FIA Anti-Launch System makes its racing debut
After a year of study and on-track testing, the Cremona World Cup marks a milestone in introducing these special protections, as they will be mounted on race karts in an official event for the very first time. The tests, carried out in diverse conditions—dry and wet—throughout 2025 and starting around a year ago, have led to the development of a solution now ready for the next stage: trial in competition.

Indeed, the adoption of the Anti-Launch system is primarily a safety measure aimed at reducing the risk of kart rollover by lowering—if not eliminating—the chance of wheel-to-wheel contact, which remains the main cause of flipping in karting. The presence of side pods and front bumpers initially, as well as rear bumpers later on, had only partially mitigated this risk.

The future of this solution remains to be seen and written, especially since safety in karting is a complex system influenced by many variables. However, the choice by the FIA to courageously and consistently pursue in-race prototype testing is the only path that will provide useful insights for further evaluation. Any definitive adoption of the system for other categories can only be discussed after this experiment, which many are eager to witness.
