The meeting organised by the Kart Commission of the Automotoclub Storico Italiano is by far one of the most important vintage karting meetings anywhere. The event programme listed 264 karts ranging from the late 1950’s to 2004 divided into five groups respecting the criteria of the CIK classes by era and engine capacity and attracted vintage karting enthusiast from throughout Europe. There were also many additional karts present that were there to be offered for sale and not listed on the programme as well as interesting old and new original stock hard to find parts needed to finish a restoration project.
The event featured a judged kart show as well as a succession of track sessions, not competitive but certainly spectacular and engaging with the novelty of the Friday night sessions under the circuit floodlights.
The wow factor at the event for the writer was seeing an un-restored example of the Italian Zeca kart. The Zeca design was no doubt influenced by the Pederzani brothers’ Tecno Piuma from 1963. The Zeca decal which proclaimed Officine Zeca Brevetti Zerbini which translates to Workshop Zeca Patented by Zerbini.
During the sixties Luciano Zerbini was an inventor and holder of numerous patents. Today the Zeca company is a world leader in cable reels production used throughout the automotive industry and is headquartered in Strada della Chiara, 25 10080 – Feletto Canavese (TO) Italy.
