In the Rotax Micromax class, Jokubas Vaskelis (LTU), Theo Steindal (NOR), and Emilis Jouzaitis (LTU) shared the top three positions starting from the qualifying races. By the end of the racing day, the Norwegian Steindal emerged victorious from this tight battle, marking his first stage win in the series. In the Superfinal, he was followed by Vaskelis in second place and Jouzaitis in 3rd.
In the Rotax Minimax class, Estonian boy Nikita Ljubimov didn’t even give others a chance by winning all three finals. The first stage winner, Lithuanian Majus Mazinas, finished second this time. These two are also the main contenders before the last stage for the overall series winner. Mazinas must work hard in the final stage and finish ahead of Ljubimov in all races if he wants to take the series victory from Ljubimov.
In the Rotax Junior class, the top three were different at the end of each race. However, in the Superfinal, Latvian Toms Sterele took a clear win, followed by Polish driver Sulima and another Latvian, Tions. The points’ differences are small in this class, and all three still have a chance to win the series.
The races in the Rotax Senior Max class were as gripping and tense as never seen before in this region. Finally, Miska Kaskinen won all races confidently. Behind him however were fierce battles for every position and point in all races. By the end of the Superfinal, the podium was occupied by drivers who had never been in the top three in earlier finals. Following Kaskinen, the lower podium steps were taken by Latvians Usakovs in 2nd place, and Sestakovs in 3rd place.
In the Rotax DD2 Masters class, Estonian Priit Sei dominated, taking advantage of the home track. While his victory was never in doubt, there was a tight battle for second and third place. The second place was claimed by Estonian Ivo Pärle, and the third podium step went to Latvian Richards Kalnciems. Sei has the best chance for overall series victory.
The fastest class, DD2, was no exception with excitement in all races. Ragnar Veerus (EST) performed excellently, winning all three finals and rising to the lead in the overall ranking for the 2nd stage. Latvian Patriks Noels Locmelis fought his way to a sweet second place, just tightly ahead of his compatriot Emils Akmens. In this class, there will also be a tough battle in the last stage between Veerus, Akmens, and Schurko (LTU) for the overall series win and a spot in the Rotax Grand Finals, although Veerus has the best chances.
During the competition, we also celebrated the birthdays of both our youngest and oldest driver. Andrius Maniusis (LTU) turned 7 and Heigo Hummel (EST) 60 years old. The Rotax Family truly unites generations, families, and friends - it’s a lifestyle. We will meet again in the Rotax Nordic Challenge on August 16-17, but this time at the 333 Baltic Ring in Latvia, where the third and final stage will be held.
Nikita Ljubimov interview:
You confidently won all the races this time. Did the home track and audience support help you, or was there another reason?
It's hard to say exactly what helped me gain such a big advantage and achieve such good speed. I guess everything helped a bit. I think the most important factor was that I knew the track and all the setups very well. Also, this time luck was on my side.
Presumably, your goal is to take the overall series win in your class and once again secure a ticket to the Rotax Grand Finals. How confident are you that you can take this victory from your main competitor, Majus Mazinas?
Yes, of course, that's my goal. I believe I have very good chances to get the ticket in Latvia, 333 Baltic Ring. There are 9 races in total in the RMC Nordic Challenge and if we look at the results of both the 1st and 2nd stage, we’ll see I’ve won 5 races out of 6 and in one, I finished second. But I also have other races as a safety net if I should face any trouble in the RMC Nordic Challenge, such as the RMCET in Italy, Lonato, and the Estonian championship.
