Travisanutto will race at Euro Grand Prix '24 on a rotary valve 100cc

A year after trying a 100 Formula Super A for the first time, the three-time World Champion has decided to race in the greatest event in the European 100cc scene at Vojens in Denmark, where the best drivers in the category compete.

Just over a week ago, he was on the podium at Aragon in the top class of the current FIA Karting, the KZ, and at the end of the month, he will compete among the best 100cc drivers in the amazing karts of the top class that marked the golden age of Karting. Here is Lorenzo Travisanutto. «I love racing, I like competition, and always setting new challenges for myself. When the guys from Team Brask proposed that I race one of their karts, I couldn't refuse the offer.» The love for these karts began last year, as Vroom readers will remember, in Cremona, when Travi starred in a Vroom's video aimed at introducing the younger generation to the difference between an OK Senior and an FSA. It was not exactly a comparison, but rather a contrast between generations, so much so that alternating the driving of the two vehicles with Lorenzo was Sandro Marra, a protagonist on the track during those memorable years.

«That was when I first got to know these karts, whose performance certainly cannot be compared to current OKs, but they deliver absolute driving pleasure and emotions. However, in the race, there won't just be the screams of the engine at 20,000 rpm and the fun, but also adjusting the carburetion, understanding the setups, and many small things that I will try to learn from the specialists of the category. It's one of those challenges that I enjoy.» Travi does not care much about the result, although a race is a race and once on the track, that will matter too. He is more interested in the spirit that animates these competitions: «I decided I would race when I was in Jesolo in May for the ASI Go Kart Show. That day on the track reminded me a lot of my beginnings when I used to go to the track with my dad. The simplicity of that world is something I appreciate a lot. I will be racing at Vojens, which, by the way, is a track I'm driving on for the first time, primarily to appreciate this spirit and enjoy the event. The race will certainly be a pleasant pretext for me. As for the result, I can tell you that there are many strong drivers who know these machines very well, and I will try to make the most of the free practice sessions to learn as much as possible. It is not a given that, just because you are a high-profile driver, non-professional races will be a walk in the park, but you know, I also race with rentals whenever I get the chance, I don't have any problem with that!» On the circuit at Vojens, Travisanutto will drive a CRG Heron - Parilla TT38, whose livery is inspired by the one Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg raced with in the Team MBM at the turn of the century, and he will be assisted under the tent by Sandro Marra through Team Brask.

This season, Travisanutto, who hadn't raced in a KZ event since 2023 World Championship, already took great satisfaction in standing on the podium at the first European event: «The result was incredible, of course, new tires may have given me a slight advantage because none of my opponents knew them as well, having all driven on them very little or not at all. I am always quite self-critical though, and I can tell you that between qualifying and heats, I wasn't 100% satisfied. Looking back at the race weekend now, it could have even resulted in a victory because I managed to latch onto the leading group where the race is conducted much better than at the back of the group where everything becomes more complicated: starting tenth, I was seventh on the first lap, and then we all went really fast. Returning with so little training and finding myself there was something I did not expect. Participation in the European Championship was supposed to be merely preparation for the World Championship, and being among the top was a pleasant surprise. At Val Vibrata, we'll see, there might be chances to play for it, but I don't have any illusions. I am preparing for the World Championship and am already happy with how things are going. Since I practically only have August left to prepare... I think there will be little time for holidays this year!»
