This year's Rotax MAX Challenge started with a day full of spectacle and action! The first round of the season was again at the demanding San Nicolas track in Kalamata and there, a total of 38 talented drivers pursued victory in individual categories and classes.

With the traditional Greek weather as an ally, the drivers starred in wheel-to-wheel duels, offering moments of intense emotions. In this, of course, the balance offered by the sealed Rotax 125 MAX Evo engines used by all drivers (whose horsepower increases linearly depending on the class) and the reliable MOJO tires also played a role.

In the Micro MAX category (8-11 years old), as in 2023, Konstantinos Nikolaou (#22, Racing Line, Tony Kart) was on top in all the procedures of the day (free and timed trials, Finals A, B and C). He was flanked on the podium by Dimitris-Maximos Mischopoulos (#11 Racing Line, T Group) and Christos Christoforidis (#12, Racing Line, Tony Kart).

In the seven-entrants Mini MAX category (10-13 years), two drivers alternating at the top throughout the day. It was Hectoras Tsedas (#124, Zorri Motorsport, Birel Art) who prevailed in the end, with Christos Malakos (#127, Zorri Motorsport, Birel Art) finishing just behind him in the final battle. The podium was completed by Andreas Ziutos (#119, Galaxy Motorsports, Parolin).

In the Junior MAX category (12-14 years old) eight competitors lined up on the grid. Phaidonas Papafilippou (#225, Vas. Papafilippou Racing Team, OTK) stood out, winning in all three Kalamata races. Lefteris Toubakas (#211, Saganas Team, Birel Art) and George-Sebastian Pavlopoulos (#265, Ecinisi.gr Sports Team, Kosmic Kart) completed the Top-3.

Senior MAX (15+ years) had the most entries, with 10 drivers aiming for the win. But only one of them was on top in all proceedings of the day. This was last year's category winner, George Kafantaris (#331, Saganas Team, Birel Art). Manolis Skepetzakis (#395, Emmanouil Skepetzakis, LN Kart) was second in the final battle, as in 2023, while Christoforos Bezas (#351, Zahos Karting, Tony Kart) was third.

Finally, the demanding DD2 MAX category (15+ years) of nine entries, was for the second consecutive year in Kalamata, a one man show of Christos Oikonomou (#401, Christos Oikonomou, Tony Kart). He was followed by Dimitris Zervos (#444, Zervos Dimitrios, Exprit) and George Aravanis-Kastiniera (#412, Galaxy Motorsports, Parolin).

Zervos prevailed among five competitors in the DD2 MAX Master Class (32+ years) – in which this year, for the first time, a free participation will be awarded for the Rotax MAX International Trophy to be held at the Le Mans karting circuit.

Of course, all the aforementioned, not only tasted the joy of distinction in the opening race of the season, but at the same time, they vigorously started the marathon of claiming the award of free participation in the Rotax MAX Challenge World Finals, which this year will be held at the Circuito Internazionale di Napoli, in Sarno, Italy , from October 19 to 26.

The second round of the ROTAX Max Challenge Greece 2024 will be held on May 11-12, at the Serres karting circuit in a Balkan race!
