Rental Kart World Contest by CRG: the sprint format was a hit

Columns: Racing rental
Great success for the Rental Kart World Contest, the end-of-season event organized with the CRG Centurion Karts at the 7 Laghi International Track which from this edition has changed the racing format: from Endurance to Sprint (fm)

With the participation of  90 drivers from 15 different countries (including China, Brazil and Canada), the first edition of the Rental Kart World Contest with the sprint races format is archived. The inspiration of the format that the organizer CRG has put in place is that of the FIA Karting events, with qualifying, heats on Saturday, super heats and finals on Sunday in an intense and challenging weekend of races for all drivers, characterized by many free practice sessions and a lot of driving for everyone.

To ensure uniformity of performance, the karts (Centurion CRG equipped with 390 cc Honda engines) were drawn at the beginning of each round so that all drivers were able to express their potential by concentrating only on driving. For Marco Angeletti, CRG Marketing manager, there is something to be satisfied with: «From an organizational point of view we have implemented very high standards in line with the CRG philosophy and, at the same time, the drivers appreciated the use of a new fleet of karts and above all the driving experience that the CRG Centurions can offer. We have certainly understood that with this type of kart and the continuous draw in each phase of the race, in the future we will have the need for a greater number of vehicles, as well as more in-depth tests to balance the engines, an activity that the rain in the days before the event prevented us from going to in 7 Laghi. In any case, the outcome of the event is very positive and the feedback we received from the drivers was mostly enthusiastic. The Finals were both decided on the last lap and the qualifying races also offered a great spectacle. We can already confirm that the World Contest will also have a Sprint format in 2024 and we will work from now on to improve any critical issues that emerged in this first edition to place the event in a more favorable weekend in terms of the calendar.»

As for the races, the Italian Mirko Barletta imposed himself in the very level PRO category and the Canadian pair Jeffrey Petriello and Pier Luc Ouellette preceded the Italian Cioni to the finish line of the Silver. At the start among the many faithful of the Rental races, the Nascar and former IndyCar driver Alex Tagliani, very comfortable in the brawl, being himself a karting enthusiast and owner of two kart tracks in Canada.
