Fuoco impressive pole at Le Mans 24hrs: welcome back "Speedy"

It is an endurance race and there will be many factors in play for victory. However, the monster-lap of 3:22.982 set by Antonio Fuoco in the Centenary edition of Le Mans 24hrs is no small satisfaction for the colors of the Ferrari team, which with the Italian driver on the 499P interrupts a fast of 50 years (the last pole at Le Mans dates back to 1973). Fuoco, like anyone who drives in Motorsport  at this very top level, is a son of karting, the contemporary one of Verstappen, Leclerc and Co. A slightly different karting from the current one, the KF phase to be clear, with front brake on the steering wheel in the non-shifter class but which was able to train a valid generation of drivers. Antonio Fuoco, born in 1996, from Cariati (a small town in the south of Italy), joined Team CRG (which at the time had also put a certain Max Verstappen under the tent) after a constant series of victories in minikart - in 50cc in 2006 and 2007, in 60 Mini in 2008 - also winning the 60 Mini Euro Trophy in 2007. Since then, he won other spots in karting with the nickname that many will remember of "Speedy" up to the Supercorso Federale Csai won in 2011 and the 4th place in the CIK-FIA European Championship in KF2 in his last year with karts, 2012. From there a long process in single-seaters with excellent results both in Formula 3 and Formula 2, in the presence of many colleagues who, due to different circumstances, have now been in F1 for some time, always under the FDA livery, which led him in this 2023 to debut in the WEC on a dream car that many drivers would like to be able to race on a par, if not more, than a Formula 1.
