A hectic holiday weekend at the CEE-RMC series

The Easter Bunny brought snow, cold and very variable weather to Central Europe for the second round of the CEE Rotax Max Challenge series in Austria (April 7-9). The fast, tight, technical race track version of the Speedworld circuit near Vienna was in use for the first visit to the venue in 2023. Friday's practice was on a dry track, Saturday's practice and time trials were run in the wet.

A total of 121 drivers in six categories lined up on Sunday for the racing, alternating between dry and wet conditions, which presented a great challenge for the teams and the drivers. As a result, we saw exciting tactical battles, big catch-ups and some surprises, but unfortunately many drivers slipped out of contention with the crazy weather. It was always decided in the final moments as to which set-up would be the right one, but it was a risky situation, as in the Super Final, where the right tyre choice had to be made for almost 20 laps in an uncertain outlook. On the podium Sunday afternoon, the winners were awarded for their success. However, this is likely to be the round that will be thrown away the most when it comes to the final points’ standings at the end of the season, but the drivers gained valuable and useful experience of racing on a wet track.

Following the initial CEE-RMC Bonus Cup and round 1 at Jesolo, Italy in March, the championship is still shaping up to be an exciting season with seven RMC Grand Finals 2023 tickets on the line. The next CEE-RMC round will also be held at Bruck in mid-June using the 1,160-metre Track 2. Anyone interested to race at the CEE-RMC for some close-fought competition in an international field, where all the Rotax MAX Evo engines (except the DD2/DD2 Masters categories) are supplied by the organisation via lottery system allocation, can register online at www.kartingcee.eu.
