Kartmesse 2023 cancelled - new start in 2024

- Close Up
After several years spent in Offenbach, the first post-Covid edition of the historic event dedicated to karting should have been held in Dortmund. A number of registrations not up to expectations and a general distrust on the part of operators behind the decision to cancel this edition to focus on 2024.

«Of course it hits us that we have to take another break after 2021 and 2022. We have spoken to numerous exhibitors. They are very hesitant due to the current economic development and the associated cost development. As a result, we cannot offer a programme that does justice to the world's largest Kartmesse » explains Marcel Fuchsberger, head of the fair. Despite this, Fuchsberger and his team are still planning ahead. In 2024, the Kartmesse will experience a new start from 13-14 January. «We are pleased that many exhibitors have already confirmed their participation for 2024 and reserved stand space.
We are now building on this and are already in contact with the world of karting," continues Fuchsberger. The trade fair venue has already been fixed for 2024 as well. As already planned for next year, the Kartmesse will then take place for the first time in the spacious exhibition halls of the Westfalenhalle Dortmund.» All information on the 29th International Kartmesse is available at www.kartmesse.de
We add that this annulment is not good for the promotion of this sport, which always sees the word 'promotion' at the center of political wills, but which in reality refers to a model (that of F1 and in general of global professional motorsport ) which leaves no more free spots between one season and another, with a calendar that begins in January and ends in early December.
We wonder if an almost unlimited number of competitions is the only way to promote a niche sport which, in fact, in many countries no longer has a real grassroots movement. In the next issue of our Magazine you will find an in-depth analysis in which some insiders will have their say on the matter…
