Encouraging weekend in Portimao for Anatoly Khavalkin, close to Top 5

Press Release by:
Anatoly Khavalkin familiarised himself with the Portuguese circuit for the first time, achieving a seventh position in a comeback.

In the first Euro Series Champions Of The Future round, the Parolin team driver was able to put himself to the test on a circuit which he had never actually tried but which he was able to learn and make the most of right from the start and especially in preparation for next week's European Championship.

Khavalkin also tested the wet conditions, which are not at all obvious at Portimao, especially on Friday's qualifying day where he closed the session with the fourth fastest time in Group E. From that starting position, Anatoly started his five heats, all with the aim of making a comeback.

With the exception of a penalty in the third heat (16th place), all the other heats saw Khavalkin make up positions, finishing sixth, second, fourth and eighth, a score that allowed him to start from ninth position for the second of the Super Heats.

In Saturday's Super Heats, Khavalkin made up six places and finished third to improve again and start the final from 15th.

In the final laps of the weekend, Anatoly showed great competitiveness with which he was able to recover and make up positions to fight for the podium. In the last laps of the race, in fact, Khavalkin fought for a long time to get the fourth position not far from the third. An episode of the race did not allow the Parolin driver to grab that position, closing however with a good seventh place and eight positions recovered.

Next week, Anatoly Khavalkin will be at Portimao again to contest the first round of the FIA Karting European Championship OKJ 2022.
