The 2021 season has finally started again and Kai Sorensen was ready in the first round of the WSK Open Cup.
A typical Italian weekend in September at the South Garda Karting of Lonato with uncertain weather from start to finish. Sorensen had to deal with some problems, which were then solved thanks to the great work with the Forza Racing team.
Friday's qualifying was immediately encouraging for Kai, who was able to get the third place in the C group with the best time of 47.688. Even in the five heats between Friday and Saturday, the American driver showed good race pace with a third place, a sixth place, a ninth place, a P12 and P14 due to battles in the middle group.
On Sunday, a storm that hit Lonato during the pre-final shuffled the cards and saw Kai start from P12 on the grid and finish in P7 with five good overtakes.
Unfortunately, the totally changed track conditions in the final did not allow Kai to express himself at his best, closing in P17 after a 5sec penalty for the incorrect position of the spoiler at the end of the race.
Apart from the result, Kai Sorensen showed good performances that he will want to replicate and improve next week at Adria Raceway.
