The curtain also fell on the second round of the FIA Karting European Championship OK and OKJ. Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Matheus Ferreira won their respective finals.
OK - Antonelli launches the challenge
Andrea Kimi Antonelli threw down the gauntlet for the European Championship title with a landslide victory in Essay. The Italian is back in great status, ready to play for everything in the general classification that, for now, sees him clashing with his brand mate Rafael Camara. The Brazilian, however, confirms his position in the top positions, moving up one position compared to the start and closing behind Antonelli, unassailable today. Third place on the podium for yet another pretender to the final success, Arvid Lindblad with five positions recovered. Artem Severiukhin and Yannick De Brabander complete the top five. An early twist with the retirement of Juho Valtanen, heavy for the overall standings, out also Nikola Tsolov.
OKJ - Slater wins but is penalized, success for Ferreira
In the Junior category everything changed compared to Genk, but only after the chequered flag. What we saw on the track was a real show by Freddie Slater, never approached during the weekend by the opponents and dominating the race from the beginning to the end. The World Champion, however, had to reckon with a 10sec penalty for ignoring the "slow" regime in the early laps, a penalty that cost Slater dearly, who was downgraded to tenth position. Victory was therefore in the hands of a good Matheus Ferreira, constant and competitive on the French track. Ferreira had been fighting since the early laps, recovering three positions from the start, including the position of his teammate Kirill Kutskov, who came in second overall. Third place went to Tomass Stolcermanis, the surprise of the weekend, while the top five was completed by Maksimilian Popov with nine overtakes and Alex Powell. Maxi carambola at the start with six drivers out.
