The DD2 overall winner of the Rotax MAX Challenge Euro Trophy Glenn Van Parijs took stock of the exciting weekend he had in Genk.
Van Parijs told Vroom Kart that the pace he had and the result was a “bit of a surprise”, despite knowing the famous “Home of Champions” very well. And about Wackersdorf…
1) Did you expect the result of Genk?
Of course it’s a track I know very well, but it has been a long time since I raced karts so somehow it was a bit of a surprise. We were well prepared, but after the eventful qualifying day we never thought we would still win it. We had to come from the back on finals day, but the rain mixed up the field once again, and we managed to capitalize. What a weekend!
2) Comment the round 1 races.
For my experience, racing was hard but fair. Especially in the rainy finals, where everyone had their elbows out, I got reminded of the purity of karting. Also across the other classes we saw some very exciting races.
3) Expectation for the forthcoming RMCET races.
I’ve never driven a Rotax DD2 around Wackersdorf before, and I wasn’t able to prepare as well due to school obligations, so I’m very curious to see what this next round will bring. I know I’m well supported by my team Bouvin Power, and I can assure you we’ll give it all to compete for another good result.
4) Comments regarding this particular situation caused by Covid-19?
The Eurotrophy organisation together with Karting Genk delivered proof that it’s possible to create a safe working environment while we do what we love. So a big thanks to them, as well as to everyone who correctly adopts their safety measures; we’re all in this together!
