The Kartódromo de Birigui receives approval from CIK-FIA

- News and Previews
The circuit of São Paulo's hinterland is officially among the candidates to host the OK / OKJ 2020 World Championship.

With document number 1060 signed by president Felipe Massa, the international license for the Birigui Kart circuit has been released by the FIA International Kart Commission.

The license is valid until 21 January 2022 and grants approval for the 1250 meter circuit to host CIK-FIA competitions under Group 1 (KF1, KZ1) and Group 2 (OK, KF2, OK Junior, KF3, KF4 and KZ2). The inspection took place on 24 November 2018 by Commissioner Franz Schreiner, who was received by the Director Giovanni Guerra, CBA representative in the International Commission, and by the businessman Ricardo Gracia, a well-known owner of tracks such as the Speed Park.

With the approval, the first phase of a more complex process that aims to organize the CIK-FIA OK and Junior World Championship in Birigui in 2020 has therefore been overcome. However, as said, the process will continue with the registration of the application by the CBA, mandatory for the CIK Council and also for the FIA World Motor Sport Council.

The second phase will have to be satisfied by 2019, despite counting other applications from all over the world; this means that homologation does not automatically guarantee the organization and hosting of the World Cup, regardless of the support already obtained, including the municipality of Birigui.

In any case, Felipe Massa is optimistic about the possibilities of Birigui, since from the beginning everything was done strictly according to the rules of the international body. Massa himself visited Biringui last year, accompanied by CBA president Waldner Bernardo, with everything approved.
