Not always the winner is the best at all, sometimes winning is an union of the right place in the right moment. So when deciding who is the best driver, you should consider circumstances in which a triumph happens. We wrote a list of ten drivers, who, from our point of view, could be elegible to be the driver of the year 2016. Here is the list:
Pedro Hiltbrand – CRG Racing Team*
He doesn’t need presentation: OK World Champion, OK European Champion and KZ2 International Super Cup winner. Not to mention his KZ2 Spanish title… Will the Spaniard win also this award before wearing Tony Kart racesuit?
Paolo De Conto – CRG Racing Team
After the illusion/delusion of the previous year, in Kristinastad Paolo is an iceman and holds the lead from Anthony Abbasse and Marco Ardigò taking home the KZ World title. He continued his season winning international race all around the world from Australia to States, just to demonstrate once again his value.
Marco Ardigò – Tony Kart Racing Team
KZ WSK Super Master Series and KZ European championship are the two titles won by the driver from Brescia. A true karting legend and, despite his incredible palmares, he is still hungry: look at his face on the podium in Kristianstad, that’s the face of a driver who wants to win..!
Victor Martins – VDK Racing Team
An incredible rise since the European round in Portimao led the Junior Frenchman to the top of the World in Bahrain, after a third place in the European championship which lies if we look from Portugal until the end. Former gymnast, he jumped on a kart just three years ago. A true rising star from the FFSA Academy Program.
Tom Leuillet – Sodi CPB
For the 20 year-old from Montgivray in France, the season 2016 has been a continuum rise until the apex: the KZ Asia-Pacific title won in Macau in December. He impressed also in the KZ2 International Super Cup in Kristianstad where he put his TM powered Sodi in seventh place.
Lorenzo Travisanutto – Ward Racing
2016 WSK Super Master champion in OK class ahead of Karol Basz and Pedro Hiltbrand, he lost something in the European championship, but he find it back in the World championship in Bahrain, when he led the first two days until heats. He should work on his concentration, but anyone could see his talent…
Felice Tiene – CRG Racing Team*
He lived this season in the shadow of Pedro Hiltbrand: a bad European championship finished in fifteenth place, then he found himself and fought hard for the KZ2 International Super Cup and for the OK World Championship. In both cases he lost the fight against Hiltbrand for a contact, but in both cases it wasn’t his fault at all. After ten years in CRG, he passed to Birel Art to find new stimulus.
David Vidales – Tony Kart Racing Team
A season culminate with a missed sweep in Bahrain, where he lost the title in favour of Victor Martins after having dominated the whole week-end. He showed a constant growth since the eight place and the sixth place of European championship and WSK Super Master Series. The Ferrari Driver Academy pilot now is ready to step into OK, with formulas clear in his future.
Anthony Abbasse – Sodi Racing Team
For a moment in Kristianstad he was close to the success, but De Conto and his TM mounted CRG Road Rebel got the better of the Frenchman. Second place for him in the World championship and in the WSK Super Master Series. Fighting against Ardigò and De Conto shouldn’t be so easy after all…
Karol Basz – Kosmic Kart Racing Dept.
Second in the WSK Super Master Series and in the World Championship in Bahrain, while third in the European championship. Not his best season, but each competition should be analyzed on its own, and the Pole gave it all in each circumstance. He missed a little bit of luck especially in the European championship…
