Back to the future

- News and Previews
The last FIA World Motor Sports Council held on September 28th has revealed that no prefinals will be raced in 2017 and that the new KZ minumum weight is 170kg, so we asked to CIK-FIA Vice President Mr. Kees Van der Grint to clarify the point.

Kees Van der Grint: “If there is no pre-final there will be no points for the pre-final: the 2017 point scoring system will be the same as in 2015. So it is back to the basis.

Qualifying practice to decide the grid position for the heats, the heats decide the grid position for the final race. The first 10 classified drivers after the heats will receive points and those who made it into the final (one more heat for every driver compared to the current system to compensated for the loss of the pre final so that actual running time stays the same). Points will be allocated in finshing order of the final.

The weight reduction of 5 kg is for KZ only and was approved based on a proposal from the manufacturer representatives and the Promotor. On top of that the weight data taken after each race showed that the proposal to reduce the weight for KZ made very much sense.”
