Philippe Kalmes,
of KSP agency was awarded the first CIK-FIA International Karting Photo Contest trophy for best photograph at the 2007 CIK-FIA Championship prize giving ceremony held on 8th December in Monaco.
The competition was open to all photographers who had been accredited for at least two CIK events in 2007; in all the CIK received a total of 10 candidatures. The panel of six CIK and FIA specialists selected 6 finalists, that were invited to the prize giving ceremony, however the final winner was chosen by 150 guests who took part at the celebration in Monaco. ‘Each of the six photos taken by the finalists were projected onto a screen during the dessert – explains Philippe – and everyone had to cast his vote without knowing which photographer had taken the photo. I honestly didn’t think I could have won, as the finalists were all very talented and experienced photographers. But my picture (see below) got the most preferences, 37 votes, just 3 more than my colleague at KSP, Frederic Billet. I was excited and I couldn’t believe it…it’s a great honour, which repays for all the work done this year.’
Together with a crystal trophy, Philippe was also awarded a fully paid trip and hotel to next year’s Suzuka World Cup. He ironically said: ‘I’m really grateful for the unique opportunity to fly to Japan for the World Cup, but in a way this award is only an excuse to make me work more...’
