Three chicanes have been eliminated from the new Ortona track, which is now very fast, but the young Trophy entrants faced it with the same ease. During timed qualifying, there were still evident performance gaps between some of the protagonists, since it took them some time to become familiar with the track, but these differences subsided progressively during the race. Engine changes during the meeting are part of Parolin’s usual procedure validated by the CIK-FIA, mostly to reassure participants than to adjust to actual variations.
The competition took place in the most sportsmanlike manner possible thanks to Parolin’s know-how in the field of chassis construction and FIM’s competence in engine production. Thanks to their driving ability as well as race strategy, a few young talents running for the final title to be awarded at Varennes (France) at the end of September, emerged during the competition. At Ortona, the race was mostly a matter between the Brazilian Pedro Piquet - son of the famous F1 champion - who won the two races, and the Belgian Maxime Potty, who was twice second and always very fast, increasing his lead in the Trophy overall standings. Positions are now very close around Pedro Piquet’s second place, which is coveted by at least four drivers, including the Estonian Ralf Aron, third in Race 1, and the Spaniard Arturo Melgar, third in Race 2 behind the Turkish driver Berkay Besler. It will be a very close finish in the final meeting!
