Barnicoat to be crowned KF2 Euro Champ

- News and Previews

British driver Ben Barnicoat is the 2012 KF2 European Champion!
Though it still needs to be officialized by the CIK, championship points leader Max Verstappen did not lodge any appeal to the MSA within the deadline as prescribed by Article 182 of the FIA International Sporting Code, hence he will be DQ from the PFI meeting loosing the points for entire round. This will have the effect of Barnicoat taking over the lead in the standings to be crowned 2012 KF2 European Champion.

Furthermore, were our interpretation of the Sporting Regulations  correct (see below the original articles), Verstappen would be facing the Exclusion from the meeting (loosing all points grabbed at PFI), with the aggravation that he will not be able to drop any such result, instead being forced to drop the worst of the first round in Wackersdorf.

In this case, the Championship classification would read as follows:

FIA International Sporting Code

"182. National Appeal procedure
... The right to bring an appeal to an ASN expires two days after the date of the notification of the decision of the stewards of the event on condition that the intention of appealing has been notified in writing to the stewards of the event within one hour of the decision (see previous paragraph)."

CIK-FIA European KF2 Championship Sporting Regulations
“7) The classification of the Championship will be established as follows: ...
- if the number of races is between 3 and 7, the number of races retained will be the total minus 1; ... A blank result due to an exclusion may not be discounted.”
