The British duo battles for a couple of laps, but it’s Russell to have the better, also pulling away from a very competitive Boccolacci, who also disposes of Jupp shortly after. Russell and Boccolacci pull away from the group, and the fighting gets more intense for the last podium position. Jupp and Piccini have to fend off Stoll’s attack, with the Canadian able to make a prodigious leap forward in the early stages moving up from 26th to the top ten, also setting the fastest lap of the race.
In the mix, it’s Kodric who managed to overtake Cunati for 3rd with five laps to go. So, behind the duo Russell-Boccolacci, Kodric leads the group of followers with Palou making it hard for the Croatian. In the group the fight is still on, and after a contact that involves several drivers, Jupp gets the worst, with Cunati and Piccini managing to limit the damage finishing 5th and 7th respectively. Besancenez’s performance is worth of mention, with a brilliant 6th place after a solid comeback. The French driver on Sodikart compromised his weekend in the heats after stopping the 4th fastest time in qualifying.
Race 2 promises a lot of excitement.
