In the 1970’s and 80’s, the “Coppa dei Campioni” was traditionally held on the pista Azzurra of Jesolo, in Italy, and was then considered as a second “World Championship”, a prestigious event many Kartmen wanted to add to their list of results.
On the initiative of the ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano), this classical meeting will be revived this year, and it will focus on those vehicles which made the glory of Karting from the late 50’s to the early 90’s. Over 150 historical karts are expected at this major gathering scheduled for 25, 26 and 27 May 2012.
Boasting more than 190,000 members, the ASI club concentrates most of its activities on cars, motorcycles, commercial vehicles, military vehicles, agricultural vehicles, planes and boats dating from at least 20 years. As the Italian representative of the historic vehicles heritage, the ASI started to be interested in Karting several months ago and it set up a specific think tank. This year the ASI will revive the famous ”Coppa dei Campioni” on Jesolo track with a course identical the one it had in those days when it still hosted World Championships (last edition in 1987).
It was therefore an ideal opportunity to celebrate its 50th anniversary for the CIK-FIA, which will be associated with the ASI for this meeting. In accordance with the CIK-FIA Recommendations for “ClasCIK” Karting (which can be consulted via this link), entered karts and Drivers will take part in simple demonstrations, which will send a spirit of conviviality in the respect of safety, thus paying a tribute to these “old”, glorious and still valiant epoch machines.
Both the CIK-FIA and ASI will issue invitations to Drivers and Officials who have marked the history of Karting during this first half-century of the CIK-FIA’s existence.
The karts will be divided into 9 categories, namely: ClasCIK I (1956-1963 – with or without gearbox), ClasCIK II (1964-1971 – with or without gearbox), ClasCIK III (1972-1977 – with or without gearbox, ClasCIK IV (1978-1984 – with or without gearbox) and Modern (1985-1991, without gearbox).
Entries will be open until Friday 20 April and must be sent to the ASI using a form available via one of the following links:
