CIK-FIA Asia-Pacific KF3 Champs, Macau
Danish driver Nicklas Nielsen (Tony Kart-Vortex) had won all 3 Heats but picked up a penalty in the 3rd and had to start the pre-Final on the outside of the front row.
He was soon in a collision and failed to finish. So he started the Final from last place. Yet after 1 lap he was in the top ten and after 4 laps was in the lead. He simply pulled further and further away for an easy victory. Hong Kong driver Matthew Solomon (Intrepid-TM) who started on pole, did his best to defend his lead but it was inevitable that Nielsen would pass. But Solomon showed plenty of courage in keeping his 2nd place which was thoroughly deserved. Japanese driver Teruhisa Tanaka (Maddox-Parilla) had been impressive most of the weekend but had to overcome an earlier penalty, yet finally could not be denied a place on the podium. But Philippines driver Estefan Rivera (Kosmic-Vortex) was also impressive coming through to 4th place.
Nielsen explained ‘I didn’t know what to expect starting from the back. I was quite lucky when others crashed early in the race and I was soon up to 5th. Then, everything seemed to go well for me. We are very fast at the moment . I was catching the others quite easily’.
The Event was organised by the Automobile General Association of Macao-China supported by Macau Sport Development Board and Macau Government Tourist Office, and brought the 2011 CIK-FIA kart racing season to a close.
