The “April” weather came early to Wackersdorf for the first edition of the Rotax MAX Challenge series over the weekend, but it didn’t stop more than 160 drivers from getting out on track. No surprise, of course, that the sunshine came out for the prize-giving!
Ten classes in all filled the two-day program at the Prokart Raceland circuit, including the always popular guest appearance of the GKC 100 category for a cool “throwback” adding to the...

Given the importance of the result, it seems right to focus on him: Alex Irlando, 16 year old driver from Italy, takes the Senior crown after a perfect, careful, impeccable final, one of substance. An ending that capped an equally exciting weekend, which would have been in itself remarkable, even without the final victory.
And if the tone might seem slightly over-emphatic, it can not be otherwise, since Alex is the first Italian driver to achieve this important goal. Alex leaves a mark in the history of the sport for...
This is the fourth time the RMC has landed in Portimao for the highlight event of the season, the Grand Finals. The first time was in December 2012, at its 13th edition. As we wait for the RMCGF 2022 to roar to life we want to look back at the events that have taken place on the Portuguese circuit starting with the one in 2012.
Staggering numbers
A total of 279 participants in the four official categories (Junior, Senior, DD2, DD2 Masters) did battle in Portimao. In addition, to promote the Micro Max category, 34 mini...

The initial race day was a mix of different winners and several showing their dominance on all counts during Saturday’s qualifying heats at Karting Genk. 24 races kept the drivers busy on track lapping the 1,360-metre circuit as they fought for positions to make the final cut. Only the 2-speed DD2 classes with single grid entries would avoid the second chance race. The battle for the Golden Trophy is about to get very serious as the finals play out Sunday.
Mini MAX – Six drivers lead the way to the chequered flag in the Mini category with Jacob Ashcroft ranked P1 after all top three results and winning the third heat. Nikita Nikishov without any...
Just to keep things interesting, the scattered rain falling over parts of Europe arrived late Friday afternoon to spice up the official timed practice at the Rotax MAX Challenge Euro Golden Trophy. By the end of the program, the track was already drying out considerably as the DD2 Masters reached the five-minute mark.
With the grids now determined for all 24 of Saturday’s qualifying heats, the competition is incredibly close at the top of the timesheets. The youngest in the five Rotax categories is the Mini...
