Johnny Herbert Karting Challenge 2014

- News & Previews
Press Release by:
It’s been over a month since the lads did any racing so they were really buzzing about competing with lots of pro racing drivers.

When the helmets go on, everyone’s equal. But it was special watching the lads battle it out with pedigree drivers such as Johnny Herbert, David Brabham, Johnny Mowlem, Alex Brundle, etc and the next generation of racers like Tiffany Chittenden, Sam Brabham, Jody Fanin, Connor Mill, Laura Tillet, Cris Pirro, Will Shaw and more.
Half way through the qualifying session, all eyes turned to us as the commentator announced KartForce I had taken Pole Position, only for the eventual 1st and 3rd place finishers to knock us of our perch, dropping us down to 3rd place on the starting grid out of 25 teams.
Then the throttle cable broke and the kart never ran the same again. After 3hrs of full on racing, KartForce I came home in 12th.
KartForce II had kart issues too, qualifying 16th and finishing 14th.
The Johnny Herbert Karting Challenge celebrated it’s 20th anniversary with another hugely successful event. The field of drivers and number of teams made for an extremely competitive race.
No racing for the lads over Xmas so another month’s break before they take part in the Dan Wheldon Karting Challenge at the Autosports International Show on Sat 10th Jan at the NEC, once again facing off against teams made up of top pro racing drivers. Last time we finished 12th out of 22 teams so let’s see if we can improve on that.
It was fantastic to be contacted by Paul di Resta offering to donate his race kart.
He was back home in Scotland last weekend so it was arranged for the lads from KartForce Scotland to meet Paul at Larkhall.
The lads will really enjoy racing with Paul's kart and hope it'll pass on some of Paul's amazing driving skills.
Thank you Paul - it's a massive honour to have your support.
After hearing from the lads on the Surprise Surprise show and how racing had changed their lives, Mark Webb contacted us keen to offer support.
Mark very generously proposed that his company CML sponsor us by covering the costs on setting up and running a new workshop.
This has been top of our “Wish List” as our mechanics need a workshop to store our karts, engines and growing list of items – tyres, tools and so on.
However, most of all, our mechanics need a workshop to work on the karts and get them race-ready, and repair them after each race.
We’re very proud to have the support of Mark Webb and his company CML.
We need your support to ensure we're able to fund these races for the lads so please support us with a donation.
