As wise men say, the roots of the future are to be found in the past. And Karting is obviously no exception! While day after day this form of sport continues to train tomorrow’s champions, as well as allowing many young and old fans to enjoy the excitement of driving a kart, the 50th anniversary of the CIK-FIA is an ideal opportunity to look back in the mirror.
From 25 to 27 May, the CIK-FIA will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary in collaboration with the ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano) on the occasion of the Coppa dei Campioni, a meeting which will be organised at Jesolo.
Created in 1956 by the American Art Ingels, Karting rapidly became a fully-fledged discipline, to such an extent that it was soon necessary to set up a Federation to define sporting and technical rules. And in 1962 the FIA thus directly created the International Karting Commission. Since then, Karting has changed a lot. The competitions between nations, favoured in the early 1960’s, have been replaced by the currently organised individual championships.
Technically, Karting has also known many changes, as can be seen in particular on direct-drive or gearbox karts which competed between the end of the 50’s and the early 90’s, and which the public will be able to admire on the famous Jesolo track. Several former World Champions and some prestigious guests will also add their contribution to turn this event into an unforgettable moment of nostalgia.
